the Google Maps AR functionality is now live for some users in Australia. if your mobile phone supports ARCore or ARKit, you can load up the Google Maps app as per normal, get walking (driving will disable AR) directions, and if its available to you, click on the "Start AR" button to navigate in the AR mode.

i was lucky enough to be able to test this AR functionality back in April while i was in Japan. its pretty "nifty" - definitely helpful, but i reckon it would be way more awesome if it was able to be projected onto my glasses.
